Why do you need HDB Fire Insurance?

Mandatory insurance

Homeowners with HDB loans commencing on or after 1 September 1994 are required to buy and renew HDB Fire Insurance every 5 years, for the entire loan period.

What does HDB Fire Insurance cover?

It is compulsory for flat owners with HDB housing loan to buy HDB Fire Insurance. Please note that it only covers the internal building structures, fixtures and fittings provided by HDB and/or its approved developer, but excludes household contents, renovation and personal belongings. You may enhance your coverage with Tiq Home Insurance.

The HDB Fire Insurance Scheme was introduced to help relieve flat owners of the financial burden of repair work in the unfortunate event of a fire.

The HDB Fire Insurance covers the cost of reinstating damaged internal structures, fixtures, as well as areas built and provided by HDB caused by fire and extraneous perils. It does not include home contents such as furniture, renovations and personal belongings.

The appointed insurer (from 16 August 2024) for the HDB Fire Insurance Scheme is Etiqa Insurance Pte. Ltd. and the insurance is valid for a 5-year period, renewal is done once every 5 years.

HDB Fire insurance covers fire damage to building structures, fixtures, and fittings provided by the HDB or its approved developers.

Tiq Home insurance offers a wider coverage as follows:

  • loss or damage to home contents and renovations including the cost of removing debris
  • emergency cash allowance which can be used for alternative accommodation expenses and pay for basic necessities such as food, clothes, transport
  • accidental breakage of mirrors and fixed glass
  • any legal liability for the loss or damage you accidentally cause
  • home assistance services such as electrical, plumbing, locksmithing, and pest control (for 3 or 5 year plans only)

All HDB Flat owners can buy HDB Fire Insurance. It is compulsory if you have an outstanding housing loan with HDB.

It is compulsory for flat owners with an outstanding housing loan with HDB to buy HDB Fire Insurance.

 For New and Resales Flat owners: Prior to your key collection date or otherwise advised by HDB.

For Renewal of HDB Fire Insurance by Flat owners: When you receive your renewal notice from HDB.

There are a few avenues for you to buy your HDB Fire Insurance. Below are the options:

a. The quickest way to buy HDB Fire Insurance from us is online. You can purchase or renew your HDB fire insurance by visiting our website here.

Information required: HDB scheme account no / reference no or your Postal Code and Unit number.
b. Any AXS Kiosk in Singapore

Information required:

  1. a copy of the Renewal Notice sent by HDB for barcode scanning, or
  2. HDB scheme account no / reference no or your Postal Code and Unit number.

Your HDB Scheme Account number is the 11 digits HDB reference number / scheme account number found on the top right hand corner of your HDB Letter.

You’ll need your HDB Reference Number on-hand if you’d like to buy or renew your HDB Fire insurance. Here’s where to find it:

New Buyer

Resale

Renewal of Fire Insurance

Please enter your 11-digit HDB reference number found on the top left corner of the HDB renewal notice / reminder letter(s) for HDB Fire Insurance.

NRIC and Date of Birth are necessary data to be furnished for insurance applications and claims as this is to establish and verify the identity of the individual claimant as there is a high degree of fidelity.

To renew your HDB Fire insurance,

#1: If your HDB Fire insurance policy is due for renewal and you have received a HDB renewal notice/reminder letter from HDB

  • Step 1:You can proceed to renew your HDB Fire insurance here or via AXS kiosks by providing details such as address or HDB Reference No. and your personal information.

#2: If your HDB Fire insurance policy has expired

  • Check if you have fully paid your housing loan with HDB.
    • If you have not fully paid your housing loan with HDB, you are required to purchase a new HDB Fire insurance policy with us here.
    • If you have fully paid your house loan, it is optional for you to purchase a new HDB Fire insurance policy with us here.
Yes, as long as you have an outstanding HDB housing loan this is mandatory and required by Housing & Development Board (HDB).
No. You do not have to inform HDB. HDB will be informed upon successful payment and purchase of the HDB Fire Insurance. You will also receive the Certificate of Insurance which will be sent to your email entered during the application.
In the event of a claim, please call our appointed loss adjustors at +65 9695 1338 (Mr Chan Ping Siew) or +65 8218 8521 (Ms Ker Leng) for onsite survey and assistance. A claim must be notified to us as soon as possible and in any case within thirty (30) days after the occurrence of any event which may give rise to a claim.
